10Q DC (Preview)

Welcome to my latest project - an educational game for students called "10Q".  I built the game because of my belief that if a student can answer ten random questions about a person, historical event, or concept it is safe to say that the student has exhibited "mastery" of the material.  My vision is taking many shapes and forms - the first two are as an iPad/iPhone/Droid app, and as an "old school" packet of worksheets quizzing students about 22 museums, monuments, memorials, and other places of interest in Washington, DC.

These worksheets have many uses.  They (of course) can be reproduced and given to students who are on a field trip to our nation’s capitol.  I have found that if students have a few questions to keep them focused during a visit to an educational destination, they learn SO much more from the experience (instead of just aimlessly wandering around).

Substitute teachers love these worksheets because they are great to keep in their briefcase in the event the teacher they are “subbing” for does not leave lesson plans for them to use.  Instead of letting the students have a “free day” where they get the idea they can do anything they want (including drive the sub crazy), they have questions to answer!  The answers can be found in History textbooks or the Internet.  The subject matter is awesome because everyone needs to know more about the incredible landmarks, museums, and memorials located in Washington, DC.

We have also added an interactive element to the worksheets, the blog http://10qdc.wordpress.com/ .  In it, you can interact with the creators of the worksheets, ask questions, suggest new questions for the worksheets, and post pictures and comments about DC points of interest.

The MAIN reason why this packet of worksheets and answers exists is to provide the answers for my newest educational app for Droid and iPhone, “10Q DC”.  It is so awesome to give students the option to NOT have to lug around packets of worksheets to all of the sites in DC…they can access the questions on their phone, iPod, or iPad for only 99 cents!  Just go to the iTunes store or Droid Marketplace, and type in the search term “DC” or “10Q” to find this interactive app.  The app will be available for purchase starting in January of 2012.

If you have any questions about the questions contained in this project, contact me at newteacherhelp@yahoo.com and put “10Q” as the subject of your email.  I receive hundreds of emails in a day, and I want to make sure I don’t miss yours!
