Most
people would say that American students are experts at technology, and that the
United States is the world leader in the development of technology.American students are experts at playing
video games and gossiping with each other using Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, and
text messaging…not exactly the kind of technological “know-how” that will keep
us #1 in the world.We also assume that
because Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are American, we will always be the world’s
innovators in the technological arena.Not true.Many of the more recent
inventions in technology have been made by people from India, China and other
Asian countries.When something goes
wrong with your computer hardware or software and you call the “customer
service” number, chances are you will be talking with someone from India or
Pakistan.Why?First, they know what they are talking
about.Second, they work for less money.If present trends continue, the gap between
other countries and the United States is going to continue to widen.
