7.      “Lap Dance” – This is the least creative of the texting methods students use.  They simply let their phone rest in their lap, and go to it to text and check their messages when you are not looking.  The tell-tale sign of a lap texter is their eyes…they are continually looking down into their lap, and have their hands in their lap.  When you discover their trick, and move towards them, they slip their phone in between their thighs, or sit on the phone.  I would NOT recommend asking students to spread their legs to see if there is a phone in there!  Be patient!  You will catch them again later.  If you want to have a little fun, ask the student to speak with you in private out in the hallway.  Some students will actually try to get out of their desk and walk out of the room with their phone lodged in between their legs!  Hilarious.  When the phone drops out onto the floor…act surprised.
