4.      You are a “Mandated Reporter” – If a student reports to you about abuse that is taking place at home or school, you are required by law to report it to your state’s Children’s Protective Services agency.  In my state, we call it “hotlining”, and we place the call to an organization called Children’s Division.  If you are aware of abuse and do not report it, you could be held liable!  If you are unsure, consult one of your school’s counselors or administrators before you make the call.
