My
name is Sean M. Brooks.I received my
Bachelors Degree from MiamiUniversity in the field
of Health Education in December, 2004.I
have a Masters Degree in Education with a specialization in Integrating
Technology in the Classroom from WaldenUniversity.
I am currently a
middle school health education teacher in southwest Florida and teach all three grades (6th,
7th, and 8th).I
have championed a Conflict-Violence Prevention Group made up of participating
students within our school.These
students meet in my room and we discuss topics such as bullying, conflicts,
causes, and solutions.These students
recruit their peers to join the group and offer help to those who need it.With the partnership of William Steelnack,
our school’s T.V. Production teacher, the two of us create student-driven
videos that air during homeroom throughout the school. The show we call “The Roundtable” shows
students in the group discussing these topics, their personal experiences, and
offering solutions to those watching the program. This student-driven prevention tactic shows
students need to be intrinsically motivated, and how they can have a positive
influence on their peers.I will be
writing about our conflict resolution group, the topics we discuss, and the
impact it has on their lives at school, at home, and in the community.
