1. Smarty-Pants
– The Smarty-pants is a student who thinks she is smarter than the
teacher. She will try to undermine your
authority by telling other students that they could teach the subject better
than you could, or that you are giving them wrong information. The Smarty-Pants will ask questions that are
off-topic just to waste time, or give incorrect answers on purpose to waste more
time.
What you can do:Do not get into a debate with a Smarty-Pants
during class, that is what she wants you to do.It gets you off-topic…which is exactly what she wants.Tell Smarty-Pants that you would like to
discuss any issues she has with the lesson during guided practice, after class,
at lunch, or after school.Maybe you
could give Smarty-Pants an opportunity to make a presentation to the
class.S.P. could pick a topic, like
solving one-step equations or explaining adjectives, adverbs and conjunctions. At the end
of S.P.’s presentation, you could give the class a quiz over the material.S.P.’s grade is based on how well the class
does on the quiz.If it works out, other
students may step forward to present a lesson. If it turns ugly, you may have to discontinue the practice.
