Videos in the Classroom

Every teacher at one time or another has shown a video to his class, whether it be for educational purposes or as a reward for classroom goals being met.  Unfortunately, a large number of angry parent phone calls are placed to administrators to complain about the showing of videos to their children.  The reasons range from inappropriateness of content to the lack of a relationship between the class curriculum and the video.  In order to maximize your video-viewing pleasure, take these suggestions into consideration:

1.      Preview the video

2.      Preview it again

3.      Make your own copy of the video

4.      Have a plan

5.      Notify administrators

6.      Have a “Plan B”

7.      Show video clips instead

Using these tips will show your supervisors that you are being purposeful with your use of videos in the classroom.
